"As the CEO of an affordable veterinary care clinic serving thousands of families throughout our community, I strongly support Dr. Kaitlin’s vision to establish a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable, in-home humane euthanasia services and palliative hospice veterinary care for pet owners facing one of the most difficult decisions of their lives.
Every day, our clinic sees families who deeply love their pets but are financially unable to access compassionate end-of-life care. Too often, cost becomes the deciding factor in whether a beloved companion animal receives a peaceful, humane passing. No family should have to experience additional trauma, guilt, or suffering because affordable euthanasia care is inaccessible. Dr. Kaitlin’s proposed nonprofit directly addresses this urgent and underserved need with compassion, dignity, and innovation.
What makes this program especially impactful is that it is both deeply humane and highly replicable. In-home veterinary hospice and euthanasia models have already demonstrated success within the private sector, and Dr. Kaitlin’s nonprofit approach has the potential to expand these lifesaving services to vulnerable populations who would otherwise go without care. By removing financial and geographic barriers, this program will help families keep pets comfortably in their homes longer, prevent unnecessary surrender of senior and medically fragile animals, and strengthen the human-animal bond during an incredibly vulnerable time. While we are a public-facing affordable veterinary care center, our organization is also a managed intake animal shelter.
We have the unique perspective of seeing the full life-cycle of pets. The unfortunate reality is that community members who are faced with having to euthanize their pet but lack the financial resources to do so end up requesting to surrender their beloved pet to the shelter. It is a heartbreaking cycle to see; to know a pet has been a beloved companion for a human and the human wants to do what’s right, but is forced to surrender because of lack of resources is a devastating reminder that financial hardship should never determine whether a family can provide their pet with dignity, comfort, and compassionate end-of-life care.
As a woman-led initiative grounded in empathy, accessibility, and community-centered care, this organization represents the kind of innovative thinking our field urgently needs. Dr. Kaitlin’s commitment to collecting meaningful data, tracking outcomes, and continuously improving the program demonstrates not only passion, but a clear dedication to building a sustainable, measurable, and nationally replicable model for animal welfare organizations and veterinary partners alike.
This work aligns closely with the future of humane animal care: relationship-centered support services, equitable access to veterinary care, and proactive solutions that improve both animal welfare and family well-being.
